Uninstalling Microsoft OCS 2007 R2

My decommissioning steps are detailed below:

1. In the OCS 2007 R2 Administrative Console, expand Standard Edition Servers, expand your servers computer name and then right click the "Users" container and click "Delete Users". Follow the presented wizard to remove all OCS attributes from your SIP enabled user accounts.

Note: This does not delete your Active Directory user accounts, it simply SIP disables the users.

2. Right click your servers computer name and select "Deactivate", then proceed to deactivate each role in the following order. Performing these steps in the incorrect order will impact the uninstallation of the product.

Front End Server - If deactivation fails, run this again but check the force option.

3. Once the deactivation is complete, go to the control panel of your server and select either Add/Remove Programs or Programs & Features depending on your operating system version. Proceed and remove the following services in the below order.

Audio/Video Conferencing Server
Conferencing Announcement Service
Conferencing Attendant
Outside Voice Control
Response Group Service
Web Conferencing Server
Standard Edition Server (Front-End)
Managed API 2.0 Core 64-bit

4. Demote your server from the domain and proceed to delete it's Active Directory computer account and its associated DNS A and SRV records.

That's it, you have successfully removed Office Communications Server 2007 R2 from your environment.

4. 如有需要,將OCS Server退出網域並且移除AD Computer Account,接著在DNS Server上移除A Record & SRV Record,這樣就可以完整的移除OCS Server

File Transfer Failures

Problem:
While attempting to upload a file using the Group Chat Client Console, the following error may be displayed :



Cause:
Group Chat Web Service is unable to write the file to the File Repository due to insufficient permissions.

Resolution:
In the properties of the MGCWebService virtual directory in IIS on the Group Chat server, configure Anonymous Access to use an account that is a member of the RTCComponentUniversalServices group.

By default, the IUSR account is used for Anonymous Access in IIS. This account does not have access to the File Repository (share) used by Group Chat.

Insufficient Display of Chat History

Problem:
Upon logging in to Group Chat, an insufficient amount of Chat History is displayed in the Group Chat Client Console.

Cause:
Product limitation, retrieval of backchat data from SQL database is expensive operation.

Resolution:
This is a perception issue, based on erroneous assumption of how product works.
Retrieval of chat history at user logon is limited to 50 lines, regardless of client setting.Decision was made to limit data retrieval upon user logon due to performance concerns.Chat History can still be searched, but only for Chat Rooms where Chat History is enabled.

Installation Failure – Multiple Domains

Problem:
Installing Group Chat into a different AD Domain than where OCS Groups exist will result in the following error:

* Error Applying Changes - Group 'RTCComponentUniversalServices‘ is not
found in Active Directory

Cause:
Group Chat installer will only search for OCS Groups using the default
naming context of current domain.

Resolution:
1) Create temporary set of OCS Groups that mirror the real OCS Groups and their membership in Active Directory Domain where Group Chat will be installed.
2) Create new security group called RTCGroupChatServices in domain where Group Chat
will be installed, and add the Group Chat service accounts to the membership of this group
3) Add the RTCGroupChatServices group to Message Queuing service with Full Control rights
4) Install Group Chat

Installation Failure on Windows 2008

Problem:
Installing Group Chat into a Windows 2008 server may result in the following error:



Cause:
Group Chat installer requires the SeImpersonatePrivilege right to create the MGCWebService virtual directory under the Default Web Site in IIS 7.0.


Resolution:
Run the installer using the elevated privileges of the built-in Administrator account.

On a Windows 2008 computer, this privilege is automatically granted in the security token of the Domain\Administrator account (Built-in account for administering the computer/domain), but not for other members of Domain Admins.  To prove this you can use the Whoami utility.

Whoami.exe /all (logged in as Domain\Administrator)

Failed to activate LCS & OCS Standard Edition Server

Communicator 無法解析登入伺服器

當使用者從 Internet 登入 Communicator 時，不管是自動登入或者手動登入，都會在使用者電腦上的 Event Log ，看到如下的錯誤訊息，此錯誤訊息即顯示無法解析登入的伺服器名稱，所以請確認外部 DNS 的 SRV 記錄是否設定正確。 ( DNS SRV 記錄格式 _sip._tcp.example.com )

OCS 2007 R2 與 Windows Server 2008 R2 相容性確認

Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 and later versions will be supported by the end of Q1 2010.

所以目前的 OCS 2007 R2 還不支援 Windows Server 2008 R2，要等到 2010 Q1 結束後才會釋出相關的配套方案(Hot Fix)，而使用者可以另外參考 OCS 2007 R2 的軟體與硬體要求以解決相容性問題。

Updates available for expiration date issue with the evaluation editions of Office Communications Server and Office Communicator

Microsoft has just released the following Knowledge Base articles (KB972041, KB972042) to address the incorrect calculations of license expiration dates for Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 R2 and Office Communicator (OC) 2007 R2 Evaluation Edition. The current expiration dates were calculated based on build time, causing the OCS 2007 R2 and OC 2007 R2 Evaluation Edition to expire after June 13, 2009.

Microsoft has issued the fixes below to correct the issues. By applying this fix, the expiration date will be updated to one hundred eighty (180) days after the initial installation of OCS R2 or OC R2 Evaluation Edition, as stated in the license terms for these applications.

Microsoft encourages its customers to apply necessary updates in their evaluation environment to take full advantage of the evaluation period.

Presence info for an OCS user may not appear, or may appear intermittently, in Outlook when the SIP address and primary e-mail addresses differ

Changes in Office Communications Server Public IM Federation

Federation is an important goal for the Office Communications Server team and we are excited to announce several changes to public IM federation between Office Communications Server and public IM networks, effective July 1, 2009:

· The Live Communications Sever Public IM Connectivity (LCS PIC) license will be renamed Office Communications Server Public IM Connectivity (OCS PIC) license.

· Customers with Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Standard CAL or Office Communications Server 2007/Live Communications Server 2005 SP1 Standard CAL with Software Assurance will no longer require an additional license to federate with Windows Live. (A license will still be required for federation with AOL & Yahoo!.)

· With Windows Live federation, customers are able to add Windows Live contacts to their Office Communicator contact list, view presence and send and receive instant messages.

We will continue to work with our partners to enable more options that allow you to communicate seamlessly with customers, partners, friends and family on different networks. •Profiles don’t match - the sign-in address must match with the Outlook MAPI profile address
•Office 2007 SP1 is required in order to avoid OL hangs, make the voicemail notification work

•Transient auto-discovery error
•When Communicator first signs-in, auto-discovery is initiated in order to discover the Exchange Web Service
•During this period, Communicator does not have access to Calendar information
•The user would see a transient error in the notifications area until auto-discovery is completed Typically, this should be 5-30 seconds
